Desimone's Cycles; San Jose, CA

  1. they had shop stands that are forged with "DESIMONE'S BICYCLE SHOP STAND". the stands are now at Missing Link in Berkeley

  2. Elliot Chandler, who ran Desimone's along with his mother-in-law, Athene Fields (Joe Desimone's daughter) fabricated those bike stands and sold them to shops. Three of them were owned by Peter Rich at Velo Sport in Berkeley. Peter sold one of them to me when the shop closed and it is on load to a buddy of mine.

    I think Elliot did not fabricate those stands. There was another man at Desimone's when I arrived there in 1980 and my guess is that it was HE who made them.

  3. Yea that was Abel Cavasas, head mechanic. Abel was pretty much a life long employee of Elliott and Betty Ann chandler who was Athene's daughter. I worked there 1974-1976 along with 2 Xmas' , 78 and 79. Abel was a magician repairing mangled, car struck bicycles making them look new again. He could manufacture repair anything mechanical, great engineering skills. I have yet to see any stands that could compare with those Desimone's stands of 50+ years ago.
