C. Harding's Westwood Cyclery; Los Angeles, CA

  1. I grew up a few miles west of UCLA and later went to college there, so I remember Charlie and C Harding's For Bikes well. He was an immigrant from the UK with a strong bias in favor of English and Irish bikes. I frequently took advantage of his huge stock of Regina cogs and other small parts.

  3. purchased my first tenspeed from charlie in about 1966. it was a white peugeot uo8 which cost around eighty dollars.

he showed me some campagnolo equipped carltons he had on closeout for about one hundred sixty dollars. my little brain could not imagine such a costly bicycle. i had a part time job as a student which paid a dollar sixty-five per hour. so after payroll deductions, it would have been well over one hundred hours work to purchase one of those carltons.

  4. I bought a couple Italvegas from Hardings when I was a student at UCLA. The first was stolen outside the biology building. The second was an eventual parts donor to a Masi GC. Memory is foggy now, but this would likely have been in the 1973-75 timeframe.
